Tom Brady to Spend A LOT More Time With Gisele

What a turn of events!!! I’ll get right to it: opening game of the season, the New England Patriots hosting the Kansas City Chiefs, 1st quarter, no score, Tom Brady steps up to make a throw to Randy Moss when Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard, already on the ground, lunges forward at Brady’s knee; the result, torn ACL, out of the season (Brady that is).  This team just went from Superbowl favorites to “let’s hope we make the playoffs.” WOW!!! I don’t know what else there is to say.  Sure they still beat the Chiefs, which actually shows how pathetic my Chiefs are, but is backup starter Matt Cassel the answer for the Pats? Cassel hasn’t started a game since he was in high school, though he did a decent job managing the game Sunday. Now I wanna see the “genius” Bill Belichik work some of his magic.  For years, I’ve been hearing how he’s the best coach in the league. Let’s see what he’s gonna whip up for the rest of the season.  Is that Daunte Culpepper’s phone I hear ringing?  Don’t forget, in 2004 Culpepper threw for 39 tds, with a third of those going to Moss.  Maybe Culpepper’s a stretch, but I’m not sure Cassel can handle this.  Looks like the race in the AFC is wide open, ready for the pickin’s.  I know there’s one team that’s smiling right now. Ummm, Steelers/Colts, please step up and take your spot at the head of the class.

Bye Bye Billick

brian billick onthebuzzer.comFirst sacrifice to the NFL gods has been made.  The Baltimore Ravens cut head coach Brian Billick.  The same guy that led them to a win in a Superbowl in 2001.  The same guy that led the Ravens to a 13-3 recordbrian billick onthebuzzer.com last season.  I guess a 5-11 performance as an encore wasn’t acceptable.  Look, I’m all for changes, but the Ravens’ problems run way deeper than Billick.  They don’t have a quarterback and don’t tell me Boller and McNair were injured or whatever.  Their defense is getting old and frankly, is a fraction of what they used to be in ’01.  Their play calling has always been suspect.  Even when they won the Superbowl, the Ravens were never putting up big points.  In the same division as Pittsburgh, Cincy and Cleveland, these guys have a lot of changes to make before going to camp next year.  Hopefully the new guy can right this ship.  Did someone say Bill Cowher???

AFC PREVIEW:

WEST

Chargers: Anything short of a Superbowl is unacceptable.
Chiefs: Haven’t had a true QB since Montana. Defense still sucks.
Raiders: Daunte and co. should be a pleasant surprise.
Broncos: Too much pressure on Cutler to make playoffs…

EAST

Patriots: Good on paper but…
Bills: Exit McGahee, enter Marshawn, same results.
Dolphins: Not good enough for Chiefs, but in the right system…
Jets: Time to think abou dumping Pennington and rebuilding.

NORTH

Bengals: A knee injury away from ending up in the cellar.
Ravens: Defense still bright spot on this team.
Steelers: Overrated QB + over-achieving RB = recipe for disaster.
Browns: Good offseason, still have a few years from becoming competitive.

SOUTH

Colts: Will clinch division by Halloween.
Titans: Vince and Lendale should help them finish second in the division.
Jaguars: Should’ve cut Leftwich 3 years ago.
Texans: Still don’t regret drafting Mario?
