The TRUTH about Sports

I HATE THE NEW YORK JETS THIS MUCH!!!

Please, oh please, let someone beat the Jets. I can’t stand the New York Jets.  And it’s not the all of the players.  It’s what the team stands for… arrogance, swagger, and unsportsmanlike conduct.  I hate Ladanian Tomlinson and Antonio Cromartie.  I can’t stand Braylon Edwards.  And Shonn Greene is getting on my nerves. I hate the way they flew around the field flying around lake airplanes.  But I have no beef with Mark Sanchez, Darrelle Revis, Santonio Holmes and the rest of the gang.  I’m even beginning to like their coach Rex Ryan.  I mean after watching him these two past playoff games, he just wants to win, and like having fun doing it.  Sure he’s classless but you can tell that he’s the kind of coach players wanna go to battle with.  That, plus every other word that comes out of his mouth is a profanity. With all that said, I still hate the NY Jets, and I think the clock is about to strike 12:00 on them this coming Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The rule is if you beat a team in the regular season, it’s a lock to lose to them in the playoffs. For all  of you who remember, the Jets barely beat the Steelers on December 19.  Now, next Sunday will be the game of the year.  A showdown between a team that punches people in the mouths (Steelers) and a team that needs to be punched in the mouth (Jets).  If you’re in the area, grab some tickets, as the game’s not sold out yet. In the meanwhile, for all you Jets’ fans and players, don’t forget, you still have 2 more games to win.

Stay Classy Jets…

Clearly sarcastic on my behalf.  Jets strengthening coach SAL ALOSI stuck out his knee during a punt return, causing Miami Dolphins’ gunner Nolan Carroll to fall down.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?  The story of the game should have been how the Jets choked away an easy win and how they’re not as good as everyone thinks they are.  Instead, you got one of Rex Ryan’s cronies executing the biggest bushleague move I have EVER seen in football.  It’s unprecedented. The funny part is that I’m not surprised by this move coming from Jets’ personnel. I actually liked this team.  They have some real players.  But for some reason, after going on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” this past offseason, they’ve turned Hollywood.  Sure they made it to the AFC Championship game last year…kudos.  But this year, they’ve beaten 1 quality team, and have many last second victories.  Commissioner Roger Goodell better come down hard on the Jets and this Alosi guy.  We want a suspension and a HUGE fine. What an idiot!  And how do you lose to the Dolphins? That’s 2 losses in a row. At Pittsburgh and at Chicago over the next two weeks. Can someone say, 4-game losing streak!!!

SANCHEZ AND THE NEW YORK JETS ROLLING

Could the NY Jets be the real deal? I hate to say it, let alone think of it.  I’m not gonna crown ’em yet. Sure Mark Sanchez is proving Pete Carroll and all the naysayers wrong.  He makes plays when his team needs them and rarely makes mistakes.  Ladanian Tomlinson appears to have drank from the fountain of youth because on Sunday against the Bills he decided to reel off 133 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Braylon Edwars, since his little D.U.I. incident a few weeks ago, is averaging 86 yards and 1 td in the last two games. They lost their first game of the season to the Ravens.  They’ve won 3 straight since including games against rivals Patriots and Dolphins.  Now if they beat the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night, I might start jumping on the bandwagon.  If there’s 1 high profile game you wanna watch next weekend, it’s this one.  Witness a star quarterback in the making. How does that chant go? J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS?!?!?!

Ravens’ Defense Shuts Up Jets

The most anticipated game of the opening weekend and all we got was a 10-9 struggle.  Sure the Ravens won, we’re happy about that.  We’re happy that the Jets couldn’t do shit on offense.  74 passing yards for “phenom” Mark Sanchez.  I’m not sure I’ve written it down before but I’ve said it many times to date, Mark Sanchez is going to have a not-so-spectacular year.  He’s not the quarterback y’all think he is.  He is no Brady, Manning, Brees, or Rogers.  Frankly, he’s no Matt Ryan, Donovan McNabb or even Carson Palmer.  I’d even take Joe Flacco, Tony Romo, and Eli Manning over him.  This kid is average at best.  He won’t lose again, but he won’t win one for you either.  The Ravens, on the other hand, got the victory.  But I have to admit, I’m a little disappointed with the 10 points.  This team was supposed to be much improved offensively.  They signed Anquan Boldin and Houshmanzadeh, 2 marquee receivers.  Add them to Derrick Mason, Todd Heap and that 2 pronged running attack of Ray Rice and Willis McGahee and these guys should easily be putting up gaudy numbers week in and week out.  I’m gonna chalk this one up to a combination of the Jets’ D and first game jitters. But I better see some fireworks next week at Cincinnati.

NFL SEASON: WHO’S ON TOP OF THEIR GAME?

With the NFL season about to start, it’s time to pick my Superbowl favorites. But first we have to differentiate from the pretenders I’m not going to analyze every team but there are some out there that people need to get over.  The NY Jets for example are one.  Having been a USC fan for ever, I can tell you New Yorkers that the Mark Sanchez you saw last year isn’t going to get better. They got hot and lucky at the end of the season and made a respectable run in the playoffs. But if you want my opinion, they won’t even make the playoffs this year.  The Vikings are another team that will end up with a disappointing season.  Even if Brett Farve comes back, there’s no way he’s gonna play better than he did last year.  Assuming he doesn’t get too banged up in the regular season, I have a feeling that the Vikes aren’t going to be that offensive juggernaut they were in 2009.  Everyone’s picking the Cowboys to go all the way this year.  Clearly they haven’t realized that their #1 WR Roy Williams is an overrated diva.  Marion Barber has taken a beating over the years and it showed last year.  Their quarterback Tony Romo is a B+ at best and their coach, Wade Phillips is a joke. As for the rest: the Falcons and Ravens(not there yet), Chargers and Patriots (window closing fast), and the Steelers (too many off-field issues).

I hate to be THAT guy, but I love the Colts and the Saints to repeat.  Hear me out. The only thing both teams have done over the offseason is get healthier.  All the offensive weapons are there.  Each team has the best quarterback in their respective conferences.  Both teams play in the dirty South  where they’ll be able to rack up some easy wins and gain home field throughout the playoffs. I do have one sleeper pick, the Green Bay Packers.  I have to acknowledge my mancrush on QB Aaron Rogers.  He’s quickly become one of the smartest and accurate passers in the game.  The key to winning in this league is a stud at the helm.  A solid defense is huge, but look at the last few Superbowl winners: all quarterbacks at the top of their respective games.

NFL season is right around the corner and for those of you who gamble on football spreads, there’s no better time.  Aside from Monday Night Football, the games are all on Sunday giving you all week to research and prep for your “locks.” While there are thousands of online gambling sites, one of my favorites is PointSpread.com.  They even have preseason spreads just in case you can’t wait till the regular season kicks off in September. Are you ready for the football?!?!?

Remember the Titans?

Well, they lost on Sunday, 34-13, at home, to the Jets.  I watched this game and for some reason, the Titans never looked like they were in it. That potent running game… 47 yds total.  That defense… 34 points to the Jets.  That passing game… 1 td, 243 yds.  Look, I’m not gonna dig on them now that they’ve lost their first game of the season, I mean they’re still 10-1.  But I want to hear from someone outside of Tennesee who’s picked these guys as Superbowl favorites. The Jets on the other hand, KEEP ON surprising me.  Brett Favre, Thomas Jones, Laveranues Coles, it’s a nice three headed monster but I’m just not shakin’ in my boots. Fortunately for them, they have the Broncos, Niners, Bills, Seahawks and  Dolphins to finish the season, which should leave them with at least a 12-4 record, and a possible first round bye. The game between these two teams was a solid ball game, but didn’t seem like the CLASH that everyone has been hyping all week. Then again, I guess in the NFL, anything can happen. This year is anyone’s year.

LOCK of the

Now that we’re back on the right track, 6-3 on the season, time to get down to business.  After perusing through this week’s lines, I’ve got the winner for you: NY Jets at the New England Patriots -3.  After what the Pats have been doing this season, they’ve proven to me that they still have some fight in them. With all of the history between these two clubs, NO WAY Bill Belichick will let his team lose this game in Foxborough, on a Thursday night in front of a national audience to his rival Eric Mangini and his fellow Jets. As for the Jets, they’ve become the poster child for inconsistency.  I’m not saying Brett Favre is to blame, but hasn’t inconsistency followed him throughout his career. They’ve lost to the Raiders, beat the Bills in Buffalo, lost to Chargers, beat the Chiefs. Oh, and most importantly, already lost to the Patriots earlier in the season at home. You tell me who you like? Or shut your mouth, listen to the boss, and e Enjoy your winnings…

Spygate Part Deux: Jets at the Patriots

randy moss onthebuzzer.comGet ready for the massacre folks.  Put the women and children to sleep, this ain’t gonna be pretty.  After ratting out the New England Patriots in week 1 and earning the franchise a plethora of fines and suspensions. Now its payback time for the Pats.  They’re still undefeated and looking to punish the Jets.  The only problem is the snow.  I’m thinking it might slow down the aerial attack.  So instead of a massacre, we might get a murder. It seems like the Pats are on their way to an undefeated season.  I’ve said it before, I’m no Patriots fan, but if a record is going to be set or broken in my lifetime, I’m all for it, as long as it does not involve Barry Bonds. As for the Jets, it would be so sweet to win this one, huh? Mangini v. Bellicheck, good guys v. bad, David v. Goliath.  Nice story line, should be close until after the coin flip.
