RECOGNIZE Chris Paul

Chris PaulI believe in Chris Paul.  Apparently, Rajon Rondo doesn’t. After the Celtics beat the Hornets by 10 in Boston on Sunday, Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo felt he needed to let Paul know what up. Words were exchanged but nothing ensued.  Let me just say this: Rajon Rondo can’t hold Chris Paul’s jockstrap (if that make sense).  What I’m trying to say is Rondo wishes he can become as good as Paul.  I turned into a huge Rondo believer after he tore it up in the playoffs last year.  But disrespect is not cool.  Rondo needs to realize the truth.  He has 3 hall of famers on his team in Garnett, Pierce and Allen.  Not only that, but throw in a Rasheed Wallace and they’ve already become the favorite to win the East.  Unfortunatley Paul’s supporting cast isn’t as good, Emeka and David West? Paul is averaging 26 pts and 7 assists, Rondo 6.5 and 12.  In 5 years, Paul is averaging 20 points, 10 assists, 5 rebounds and 2/5 assists.  Rondo on the other hand, in 4 years, 10 points, 6 assists, under 2 steals and 4.4 rebounds.  I know Rondo is on his way to bigger and better things.  Hell, he just signed a 5 year $55 million extension with the Celtics. Although, he needs to show respect to the players that have earned theirs, and Chris Paul is that.  Heck, I don’t even think Rondo has a nickname yet.  CP3 or Chef Paul (I like the latter), might be the coolest in the league.  Back off Rondo, you don’t want to wake up a sleeping little giant. That’s the best point guard in the league…

Clock Strikes Twelve for USC Trojans

USC TrojansKeep moving moves, nothing to see here. Nothing special about this team other than an inexperienced TRUE freshman quarterback, an overrated defense, and throw in a lovable players coach.  I’m not dogging on USC’s history, but I’m gonna hammer the present.  The Trojans got their asses kicked by the Oregon Ducks.  The same Ducks that lost their starting running back to suspension after the first game.  What the hell is going on here?  Many people said that the Trojans weren’t prepared, they didn’t come to play.  The truth of the matter is that this team isn’t the team they used to be.  Matt Barkley hasn’t arrived yet.  He hasn’t had a jaw dropping game this season. He missed receiver after receiver.  The defense has allowed at leat 27 points in each of the last 3 games.  Frankly, the playmakers aren’t there YET, on both offense and defense.  Sure they have a bunch of blue-chip talent on the field but these guys aren’t gelling.  Watching the Ducks yesterday, they moved the ball anywhere they wanted.  It’s gonna be at least another year before Barkley plays 1/2 as good as people have been hyping him up.  As for the rest of the Trojans, sad. Wasted loss in the beginning of the year at Washington.  I knew this was gonna be a tough game for SC.  They’ve had problems winning in Oregon, whether it be the Ducks or the Beavers, for the past 3 years. Anyhow, looks like the “whogiveacrap” bowl for the USC Trojans this year, whoopdittedoo!

LAKERS GET RUN BY THE MAVERICKS

kobe bryantAnd that’s at Staples by the way.  We all forgot about the woes of the Lakers. After finishing off the season last year with a Championship, no one particularly recalled how they got there.  Remember the losses to Indiana, Sacramento, Miami, Charlotte, Pihlly, Charlotte AGAIN? Remember how many times the Lakers lost a game that they were supposed to dominate?  Well, fast-forward to tonight against the Dallas Mavericks, a team that hasn’t beaten the Lakers in the last 6 visits. Can’t say the Lakers were looking to the next game, because that woud be against the Hawks who are supposed to be heavy underdogs. My take on this loss, it was a clinic on why basketball is a team game (see Mavericks) vs. a street game (see Lakers).  The Lakers played the entire game like they were at Rucker Park, all one-on-one.  Kobe forcing shots from the beginning, going 6-19.  Sure he scored 20 points but he missed more than %66 of his shots, rarely got his teammates involved. When he did, they couldn’t capitalize.  Ron Artest clearly isn’t comfortable YET with his new team as he shot 1-6 and was in foul trouble most of the game.  He even picked up a technical to spice things up.  Finally, the Lakers’ bench.  What to say.  Jordan Farma dribbling the ball of his leg, Jordan Farmar throwing the ball away in a key stretch in the 4th quarter. Sasha taking an off-balance 3-pointer (missing of course). I don’t ever want to see Mbenga or Luke Walton on the court…EVER.  These guys don’t belong in the NBA. I’m not saying it’s time to panic but they’re gonna need to nip this in the bud.  As for all you psychos out there that think that they’re gonna beat the Bulls all-time record, stop.  It ain’t happening.

LAKERS RING IN NEW SEASON

Kobe BryantOpening night of the NBA and the Los Angeles Lakers went right back to work, disposing of the Los Angeles Clippers 99-92.  This game wasn’t as close as the score shows, as the Lakers were up double digits in the first quarter.  The Clippers made a few runs througout the game, cutting the lead to even 1 point but you can tell that they were never gonna pull it out. It was nice to see everyone get their championship rings prior to the game.  Hope they can get one for new Laker Ron Artest this year. As for the Clippers, sad to see Blake Griffin starting his career on the injured list, let alone as a Clipper.  Hope he doesnt turn into a Danny Manning/Shaun Livingston/bust. I’m looking at this Clippers team and other than Eric Gordon (and Griffin), there’s no one on this team that plays with fire, the love.  We all know the history of Baron Davis, Ricky Davis, and Marcus Camby, a collection of selfish athletes.  Then again, I guess Mr. Donald Sterling doesn’t really give two shits about this team, considering they’ve had only 2 winning seasons in over 20 years. Back to the Lakers, it’s gonna be a fun year, especially when Pau Gasol returns from the sore hammy. I don’t know what sucks more, the Lakers’ bench or Baron Davis?

Cardinals Order Big Mac… with Juice?

mark mcgwireBrace yourselves folks, Mark McGwire is back in baseball.  After being caught on the juice and being shunned from society, ex-slugger Mark McGwire returns, not as a player but a hitting coach.  I wonder what his first tip is gonna be? I mean, this guy had been juicing ever since I can remember. Remember how buff he was as a part of the infamous bash brothers? Or that year when when he went head to head with Sammy Sosa for the home run record? I’ve been thinking this for a while and am going to come out and say, “Did you ever wonder if Albert Pujols was juicing?”  Now before I get crucified, think about it, can someone actually be that good of a hitter?  We all thought Alex Rodriguez was amazing and we all saw what happened. Look at Manny Ramirez, same shit, different toilet.  Maybe the Cards brought in McGwire to serve as an escape goat when the news breaks? Maybe I’m just a cynic who’s been burned by these players one too many times. I’ll say this, it gives McGwire that “second chance” we all deserve. I wonder how many steroid questions he’s gonna have to answer next year. He can start by answering this one “WHY?”

One Too MANNY Years

manny ramirezNow that the Dodgers season is officially over, I’d like to look back at the Manny Ramirez experiment.  Sure it’s not over, but as a Los Angelino, I’m saddened by the fact that there’s nothing to look forward tow with respect to Maniaco.  In hindsight, the Dodgers’ best move would have been to not sign him to the two year $45 million contract they gave him in the beginning of this year.  I know it was Manny’s power that pushed them inot the playoffs last year, sweeping the Cubs and eventually losing to the Phillies in the NLCS.  Fast-forward 1 year, and what do we have? A post-steroid Manny who can’t hit a whiffle ball and a Dodgers’ clubhouse filled with unpredictable pitching.  Why didn’t they lock up Cliff Lee?  All they had to do is give up one of those young “studly” pitchers they have. The same pitchers that got shelled by the Phillies.  Sure, the NLCS is an accomplishment and considered a successfull season for many teams. But not if you were there the year before and supposed and cruised to the best records in the league the following year. The Dodgers aren’t/weren’t built for the post-season.  And I’m not talking about the shitty Cards that they spanked (let’s not even bring out that dropped ball by Matt Holliday).  The best thing that happened to the Dodgers this year was Many’s 50 game suspension. Unfortunately, he’ll be around for the entire year next year because there is no way he’s going to opt out.  I can’t see anyone pay this guy a tenth of what he is making right now, and at age 38, good luck.  Now if only the Angels could shock the world and beat the Yanks in 7.  GO RALLY MONKEY!!!

USC TRIVIA: HOW BAD IS…

USC Washington Football

HUH?

How bad is quarterback Aaron Corp? This guy was the starter for the Trojans about a months and a half ago.  He lost his starting job when he injured his knee and the Trojans inserted freshman pheno Matt Barkley.  Because of an injury to Barkley, in comes Corp, against an unranked Washington squad, 13-22 and 1 pick, no tds.  Let me tell you, this guy can’t play worth shit.  He shouldn’t have been playing the second half.  I’ll take my chances with Mustain (who seems to be in Pete Carroll’s doghouse) or even an injured Barkley. Corp underthrew, overthrew and just fucked up the game.  Worst performance of an SC quarterback I’ve seen in years. How this guy was a bluechip prospect, I have no idea.

How bad is Joe McKnight?  A few years ago, when the news of Joe McKnight committing to SC was anounced, everyone had a hard-on for this guy.  The next Reggie Bush (college, not NFL)!!! McKnight fumbled twice in the game (luckily SC recovered).  He had decent yards, 11 carries for 100 yards, but for god’s sake, make a freakin’ play when your team needs it. McKnight was quoted in the preseason in saying that he wanted to play both offense and defense.  At this point, he’s not even the best RB on his team.  After the game, he said “Washington wasn’t the better team, they just outplayed us.” Huh? Guess what moron, they were the better team today. I’ll tell you one thing, they showed up to play against SC.  Sorry ass McKnight.

How bad is Pete Carroll?  Before anyone jumps on me, I know, blah blah blah 7 years Pac-10 title.  I don’t wanna hear it.  How many times does SC have to lose to an unranked team.  It happens every year. I knew they would lose this year, but this wasn’t the game.  Maybe at Cal, maybe at Oregon, maybe even UCLA?  I think that Mr. Carroll needs to rethink his motivational speeches and start worrying about his team showing for a full season (as opposed to only the big games).  As for his play calling, how about a roll out for Corp to get the guy some confidence? How about a run up the middle with that hoss Allen Bradford instead of a Havili rush or a run to the side instead of the freakin’ gut?

How bad are the SC wide receivers? So bad that they haven’t had a receiving touchdown since week 1? So bad that I bet you can’t even name them. So bad that the second leading receiver of the game was the fullback and the leading receiver only had 40 yards.

I’m just venting, this was a nauseating loss. Bad playcalling on both offense and defense.  Good for Huskies coach Steve Sarkissian.  Big win for their program.  Another mind-boggling loss for SC.

USC: Back to Business

Matt BarkleySo much for cold feet.  Not that USC’s pounding of San Jose State was that big of a feat (56-3 to be exact), but after losing many of their starters from last year, some people were worried as to how this game would pan out. Rushing attack, re-god-damn-diculous, 6 tds on the ground for a total of 342 rushing yards.  WOW! Passing game, nothing spectacular, but the true freshman quarterback Matt Barkley did was he was supposed to do… make no mistakes. 15/19, 233 yds, 1 TD and not picks. And that defense, how about holding the Spartans to a stingy 3 points. Glad backup/ex-starter Aaron Corps got some reps in to show everyone what he’s got: 4/4, 45 yds 1 TD and again, no picks.   The biggest game of the season comes next week at the Shoe in Ohio State. We all saw what they did to the Buckeyes last year but this is gonna be a little different.  If the Trojans can establish the run early, go up by double digits, them Buckeyes can kiss their National Championship Dreams goodbye.  Anyone saw the rought time the Buckeyes had against Navy this weekend.  Well the Trojans aren’t the Navy, they’re the entire armed forces. FIGHT ON!!!
