The TRUTH about Sports

Props to Marty Schottenheimer

ving rhames onthebuzzer.commarty schottenheimer onthebuzzer.comTo quote Ving Rhames in Pulp Fiction, "let’s not suck each other’s d#@!s yet." Before everyone hails Norv Turner as the godsend, the best post-season football coach out there, STOP. Think.  Who put the San Diego Chargers together?  Who pieced together all the talent, the plays and the schemes.  Some like to call him the biggest choke artist in NFL history, I like to call him the most underrated, Marty Schottenheimer.  Schotty was given the pink slip last year after the Chargers failed fell apart in a divisional playoff game against New England.  Rather than rightfully blaming the players, management decided to blame the coach. Surprise, surprise.  Exit Marty, enter Norv who basically tried to drive the ship himself until he realized that all you have to do is hand the ball off to possibly the greatest running back ever.  Add in the easiest playoff opponent in the Titans, and you have a recipe for success.  So take a monment before you throw Marty under the bus, and give credit where it’s due.

Titans Vince Young a NO-SHOW

jeff fisher onthebuzzer.comI am officially worried.  I haven’t seen Vince Young since he injured his quad against Indy last week.  Call 9-1-1.  OK, I’m just kidding, he started the game today against the San Diego Chargers, going 16-29 for 138 yards, no tds, 1 int. At a boy, that’s how you lace ‘em up, play through injuries and lead your team…back to Tennessee.  What a pitiful performance by the second year quarterback.  Don’t get me wrong, I give the guy props for leading his team to the playoffs in just the second year.  But he just folded today.  Let’s also not forget former USC Trojan RB Lendale White, 19 carries, 69 yards.  Any time you yards per carry is less than 4, you’re not doing your job. As for platoon teammate Chris Brown, who fumbled the ball on the San Diego 9, it might be time for you to hang up your cleats.  YOU SUCK!!! As for the 3 points Jeff Fisher is making to the official: 1) My quarterback sucks, 2) My offensive coordinator can’t put together a decent game plan, 3) I bet you Norv Turner is gonna get all the credit…

Eli Manning Finally Lives Up to His Name

eli manning onthebuzzer.comAnd the Giants are on their way to Big D, to face the Dallas Cowboys after manhandling the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay on Sunday, 24-14. Eli Manning,  20-27,  185 yards , 2 tds, and most importantly no picks.  I said it before, the Giants are an excellent road team.  Their pass rush is one of the best in the league, as seen on Sunday when they were all over Bucs qb Jeff Garcia.  I don’t know if they’ll beat the Cowboys, but they sure as hell will give them ‘boys a run for their money.  As for the Bucs, it was cool while it lasted, but Garcia is not the answer.  Maybe 1 of those 13 quarterbacks on their roster can solve their problem.

Steelers Still In the Spirit of Giving

pittsburgh steelers onthebuzzer.comThe Pittsburgh Steelers welcomed the Jacksonville Jaguars into their house on Saturday. They showered the Jaguars with gifts all evening, to make them feel welcome of course. A fumble, three interceptions, and eventually the game, 31-29. Luckily, I picked the Steelers and the points (+2.5) so technically I am a genius.  As for the Steelers, is Big Ben still the man?  Did they lose because of the absence of William Parker? I don’t know.  What I do know is that coach Mike Tomlin has some work to do in the off-season.  The Jags’ season, on the other hand, will come to an end next week when they play the unbeaten New England Patriots.  Until then, enjoy the victory fellas, because in about 7 days, you will not only be on your way to Tahiti (or wherever) but you will have a worse draft pick than the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now who’s the real loser, huh?!, huh?!

Redskins’ Clock Strikes Twelve

redskins onthebuzzer.comRedskins quarterback Todd Collins first interception in 10 years came in the 4th quarter with under 6 minutes left to play.  By the time his second pick came, the game was well out of reach. Both were returned for six. It was fun while it lasted for the Redskins, who only a few weeks ago, were reeling over the loss of their teammate Sean Taylor. Then after climbing back into playoff contention, the ’skins clinched a wild card birth and were forced to travel to Seattle to play a team who this blogger considered, overrated.  Down 13-0 in the 4th quarter, the ’skins struck fast and twice in less then 2 1/2 minutes,  going up 14-13. Then, after a botched kick return, the ’skins had a chance to put the game away but could not hit pay dirt. A missed field goal later, and boom, they’re down 21-14.  Collins’ first pick would ice the game for the ‘hawks.  Now, the Seahawks will go to Lambeau to face Brett Farve, his arm, his running game, his passing game and his defense.  Seattle head coach Mike Holmgren’s return to cheese country will be the focal point of the media.  As for the ’skins, keep your heads up.  After all that you’ve been through…definitely a successful season.  P.S. fire your kicker.

Boston Celtics: Right Back At You

chauncey billups onthebuzzerAfter losing at home to the Detroit Pistons on a questionable last second foul shot, the Celtics went to the Palace of Auburn Hills and took their pride right back.  Led by Paul Pierce’s 19 pts, 9 rbds, and 7 assts, the Celtics roughed up the Pistons, 92-85.  So, who’s the best team now.  Don’t ask this blogger, because up until tonight, I thought the road to the Eastern Conference Finals went through Detroit. Now??? I do know one thing, the road goes through either Boston or Detroit and not Cleveland or New Jersey or wheverever else.  And home field advantage, it helps, but when it comes to 2 good teams, both these clubs have proven that they can win anywhere. Anyway, gotta go, the Celtics’ bandwagon is leavin’ town.
