Time to Take a Timeout from Timeouts

Enough is enough, NO MORE TIMEOUTS to “ice” the kicker before a field goal. It’s unsportsmanlike and it’s bush. On Monday night, the guy who started it all, Broncos’ head coach Mike Shanahan, got a taste of his own medicine.  At the end of the first half, he called a timeout right before the snap for a 54 yard field goal for Titans’ kicker Rod Bironas.  Luckily for Bironas, he missed.  He then rekicked and split the uprights.  This timeout calling has turned into an art in teh NFL and is trickling in the college ranks.  On Friday night, Nevada Wolfpack coach pulled the same against Hawaii kicker Daniel Kelly, who sunk both kicks.  The coaches pulling these moves need to show some class, as they’re the ones that are representing the team, the franchise and even the city.  Hopefully the NFL competition committee or whoever will visit this issue in the offseason and fix it.
