The TRUTH about Sports

When You Gotta Go . . .

pisssign.jpgImagine this: You have just ended a long day’s work and you decide to go to your local tavern and throw back a couple of beers. You casually glance around the room to take in the fellow patrons enjoying a libation or two (that’s right, libation . . . look it up) and you notice something interesting. It can’t be, but it is . . . Someone is pissing on the bar.

For an employee at Scruffy Murphy’s Tavern in Waco, Texas, this image was allschnupp.jpeg too real. Early last Sunday morning, an employee at the tavern saw Baylor University offensive-line coach, Eric Schnupp urinating on the bar. No, not outside the bar, but on the actual bar itself. The employee then told a manager who informed some police officers who were there on an unrelated matter. Although Schnupp wasn’t arrested, he was issued a citation for disorderly conduct–reckless exposure, a Class C misdemeanor in Waco. Seems like he got off easy with a $258 fine, but we all know that couldn’t be the end of it – especially while employed at the world’s largest Baptist University.

Schnupp was suspended indefinitely by the university this week after being cited, but ultimately resigned Thursday. His resignation was effective immediately. Head coach Guy Morriss and offensive coordinator Lee Hays will oversee the offensive line.

Moral of the story here?pissing.gif Don’t piss away your career.

Jackson DIVE

onthebuzzer.com stephen jackson ramsYeah, that’s right, I’m one of those guys that went into the season believing Steven Jackson hype. "I guarantee 2,500 yds from scrimmage" said the Rams premier back Jackson so nonchalantly in a preseason interview.  No brainer, you think, I go ahead and pick him with the 2nd pick of the draft and what happens…BUST.  I passed on Peyton, LJ, Brady, hell at this point, I’ll even take the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Jackson, at least he’s not a soft b@#!%,  Now every time I watch that stupid Nike commercial, I reminded of how this guy could run through 12 tackles, in the snow and blah blah blah… I know, the Rams are plagued with injuries.  Frankly, I’m not interested in excuses. Damn you Steven Jackson and your measly 233 yds and 2 fumbles and NO TDS!!! You better show up for the second half of the season.  You’re lucky that I’m a fantasy genius and managed to keep my team in 1st place with some smooth late round pickups or else I’d…

Torre Watch Over

onthebuzzer.com joe torreOne last Joe Torre article and I’ll put this baby to rest. I think Joe Torre is an avid reader of On The Buzzer, because just one day after I told him to grow some balls and tells the Yankees to shove it, that’s just what he did. Good for you Joe! The Yankees tried to low-ball Torre with a one year extension, and Torre said thanks but no thanks. Now look, I haven’t been the biggest Joe Torre supporter. I think he was made into a god for winning in New York, when with that payroll half the managers in MLB could do the same. I think he would wine a bit too much when the Yankees lost and not give the other team enough credit, and I think he loved the spotlight a bit much as well. But I’ll be the first too admit that the guy seemed like one of the good guys. Now that he’s gone, I kind of miss him already. Strange, but when you go through the past twelve years hating someone and the team that he manages, then all of a sudden it’s over, you miss it a bit. I’m not sure who the next manager of the Yankees will be, reports are Don Mattingly is a shoe in, but it will take some time to develop the type of hatred/respect that I had for Torre. It’s the end of an era in Yankee town and for me. We’ll miss you Joe, and I think Bobby Cox may be retiring in a year, how about coming back to Atlanta and finishing off where you started? Think about it.

Week 8 College Picks

top25.jpg1- Michigan State at (1) Ohio State - Could be a bit of a test for the Buckeyes this week, but when all is said and done, look for a blowout at the end. Ohio State needs to prove they deserve to be number 1.  I like Ohio State -19.
2- (4) Oklahoma at Iowa State - I know their good, but are you kidding me? -29 on the road is a lot of points to give. Take them anyway. Sooners -29.
3- (22) Texas Tech at (15) Missouripadlock3.jpg - My lock of the week. Their chance to show they belong, look for Missouri to win big. I think Tech will struggle on the road against a quality opponent. Bye, bye top 25. Take Missouri -3.5.
4- (13) USC at Notre Dame – While they have not been playing their best football, the Irish really have their work cut out for them. Lets see how the new QB does. On the road, SC will win, but I don’t think cover. Take the Irish +17.5.
5- (7) Oregon at Washington - Pac 10 games are tougher than people think. A banged up Ducks team will have their hands full with the Huskies and their sensational rookie QB. I like Washington +13.
6- (18) Auburn at (5) LSU - I know Auburn plays well on the road, but LSU is playing in a can’t lose game. Will they finally cover? Take LSU -10.
7- (14) Florida at (8) Kentucky – Must win for the Gators. Kentucky may be emotionally drained after a triple overtime game. Take Florida -6.5.
8- (24) Michigan at Illinois - The Michigan comeback trail continues. This one’s a pick em! On the road, the more experienced team will come out on top. I like the Worlverines!
9- Vanderbilt at (6) South Carolina - OK. You want to be considered a top 10 team? Start crushing the teams you need to crush. Game Cocks with a lot to prove. I like SC -13.5.
10-Mississippi State
at (9) West Virginia - Something tells me State is going to give West Virginia a run for their money early. Make no mistake, WV will come through at the end. Take State and +24.

Josh Beckett

onthebuzzer.com josh beckettQuite possibly the game’s best post season pitcher? In another exemplary performance, Boston ace Josh Beckett shut down the Cleveland Indians yet once again, proving that he should be considered one of the best, if not THE BEST clutch pitchers ever.  Beckett struck out 11 in 8 innings en route to a 7-1 victory over the Indians at Cleveland.  This guy has stepped up for his team time and time again.  I’m proud to say that yes, he was on my fantasy team.  It’s unfortunate the Beckett can’t pitch everyday, because he’s the only players Boston can count on.  Now it’s on to game 6 with Schilling going against Carmona in Boston.  Which Schill is going to show up is a mystery to us all.  But if Boston wins game 6, are they going to send Dice to the mound? I hope Francona has something up his sleeve because Dice and Game 7 is a recipe for disaster.

#2 Rank South Florida, That’s BULL

onthebuzzer.com rutgers fansI hate to gloat, but I did call the upset by Rutgers at home against South Florida. Led by Heisman hopeful Ray Rice and his 181 rushing yds, the Scarlet Knights held on to a 27-30 victory in yet another upset, this time the #2 ranked Bulls. Call it luck, but I called Kentucky over LSU last week and now this.  The proof is in the pudding, or in my youtube NCAA Week 8 Preview. Now that South Florida has fallen, the door is wide open for Boston College to step into the limelight.  With a bye week, they are certain to be teh #2 ranked team by the end of the weekend.  But watch out, #11 Va. Tech (B.C.’s next opponent) is waiting to send B.C. into the ranks of the beaten, or are they.  You’re gonna have to wait until next week to find out!!! Until then, I hear there’s a party going on in Jersey tonight.

Tampa Bay Bucs Insider

onthebuzzer.com tampa bay buccaneersIndy goes to Jags this week and they will see the defense that Dungy and Kiffin put together. When the Jags come off a short week and head to Tampa will it be an advantage to the Jags QB to see the same defense. Tampa needs to run the ball, the third quarter stats alone in the Titans game should show how bad our run offense has become. Not overlooking Detroit but the Bucs could sure use a hand if Indy can come down and play a hard nose game with Jacksonville.

This analysis contributed by our Tampa Bay Bucs insider spazpatches from youtube.
