Exit Joey, Stage Left
The hammer came down on Joey Harrington when the Falcons announced that Byron Leftwich would get the start against the New Orleans Saints. The move was inevitable, and after the Falcons signed Leftwich, you knew it was only a matter of time before he got the starting job. In Harrington’s defense, he really hasn’t been that horrible. Harrington has completed 123 of 195 passes for 1,279 yards and a passer rating of 80.3 with four touchdowns and four picks. The problem with the Falcons has been the horrible offensive line which has allowed 22 sacks. That doesn’t bode well for Leftwich, who is about as mobile as your everyday lawn chair. If Bobby Petrino and the Falcons think that Leftwich will step in and provide an instant spark to this sorry club, then they’re as ridiculous as Brad Childress calling Chester Taylor his number one back. This team was doomed from the beginning after the Michael Vick fiasco, and this season is a wash. The Falcons could stick pretty much anyone at QB and it wouldn’t make a difference. So if they think that Leftwich will do what Harrington couldn’t, then by all means I’m for it. Just don’t look for the Falcons to become the Patriots overnight, and don’t go picking up Leftwich for your fantasy team just yet.
